Coughing is a very common symptom in the acute phase and can continue over a longer period.
The causes of coughing include an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, lung disease, vocal cord problems and acid reflux. In children, it can, in rare cases, become psychogenic (a habit).
Changes to the voice are a possible, albeit rare, post-COVID symptom. They are typically associated with a cough, a runny nose or shortness of breath.
How is it treated ?
Rehabilitation treatment through speech therapy or respiratory therapy is recommended for persistent coughing or uncontrollable coughing fits. Speech therapy is also indicated for post-COVID voice change. Symptoms may fluctuate over time.
