Post-COVID dizziness is reported in 6.4% of cases 12 months after infection. Those with post-COVID dizziness describe feeling light-headed or off-balance.
How do we test for it ?
Orthostatic hypotension (a drop in blood pressure when standing up) should always be considered as a possible cause; then, depending on the clinical assessment, tests for dizziness may be recommended. In some cases, ear, nose and throat specialists perform tests of the vestibular system; in others, a neurologist who suspects an underlying cause may request brain imaging. Testing remains rare in most cases of post-COVID dizziness.
How is it treated ?
Following an assessment, dizziness is treated depending on the underlying cause. If a dysfunction in the vestibular system is identified, vestibular physiotherapy or home exercises can help to relieve symptoms.
